The 2025 FIA Formula 3 calendar sees the third tier on the ladder to Formula 1 stage 20 races on 10 F1 Grand Prix weekends, starting in March and running to September.

F3 is one of the premier feeder series for the pinnacle of motorsport with a wealth of Grand Prix winners cutting their teeth under the eye of the Formula 1 teams on the grid. Formula 3 largely acts as a driver’s entry point to the Grand Prix paddock, before moving to Formula 2.

The latest generation of the stars of tomorrow will kick off the 2025 Formula 3 season at the Australian Grand Prix when Melbourne hosts Formula 1’s season-opener. F3 will even follow F1 with rounds in Bahrain, Italy, Monaco, Spain, Austria, Great Britain, Belgium and Hungary.

Italy is the only country to host two rounds of the 2025 Formula 3 calendar with races at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola and the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. F3 will conclude its season at Monza, where Leonardo Fornaroli won the 2024 F3 title on the last lap of the year.

The only changes with the 2025 calendar compared to the 2024 schedule come in Formula 3 flipping the order of the rounds in Australia and Bahrain plus Hungary and Belgian. F3 also reverts to running Friday to Sunday, rather than Thursday to Saturday, for the Bahrain round.

How does qualifying in FIA Formula 3 work?

The qualifying session at an FIA Formula 3 round consists of a single 30-minute session that is run after the sole practice session on the Friday of a race weekend. The qualifying session determines the starting position for each car on the grid for the Feature Race on the Sunday.

F3 reverses the top 12 positions during the qualifying session to make the grid for the Sprint Race, with the remaining positions left unchanged from the 30-minute shoot-out. The Sprint Race marks the first race of the weekend and pays points decreasing from 10 for the winner.

A Feature Race has a maximum of 25 points for the winning driver. But the driver who posts the fastest lap in qualifying to take pole position for the Feature Race also earns two points. The driver who sets the fastest lap in either race also gets a point if they finish in the top 10.

The only rounds where FIA F3 adopts a different qualifying format are the weekends of the Monaco Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix. F3 halves the field into two qualifying groups in Monte Carlo and at Monza owing to the traffic caused by drivers finding a preferable gap.

Drivers backing off in Monaco’s third sector to find space or backing off in Monza’s last part to gain a slipstream made F3 change the qualifying format for those rounds alone. F3 draws drivers into two groups, with Group A running first and Group B following immediately after.

The draw splits the even-numbered cars from the odd-numbered cars. The driver who posts the fastest overall lap time in qualifying wins pole position for the F3 Feature Race, with the fastest driver in the other group taking second and their group get the even-numbered slots.

So, with that in mind, Full Oversteer looks into the full 2025 FIA Formula 3 calendar with the dates and times of each race, qualifying and practice session (as confirmed) in the schedule.
