The 2025 IndyCar Series calendar sees America’s top single-seater championship run 17 rounds, starting in March and running until the US’s Labor Day weekend in August.

IndyCar has brought forward the conclusion of its calendar by two weeks to coincide the last round of the 2025 calendar with Labor Day. It also means the entire 2025 campaign will only last six months, of which one is also dominated by the Indianapolis 500 as it takes over May.

St Petersburg, meanwhile, retains the place of the season-opener with the first round of the 2025 IndyCar schedule getting the series going on March 2. IndyCar then heads back to The Thermal Club, which will hold its first championship race following the 2024 $1m Challenge.

IndyCar gave one of the points-scoring races that the Milwaukee Mile staged in 2024 to The Thermal Club. The series argues the switch will allow for IndyCar to gain momentum earlier in the year, having previously endured lengthy gaps between the early rounds of the season.

IndyCar moved the 2025 season finale forward to help FOX avoid any NFL clashes

A major factor which played into IndyCar arranging a six-month season between March and August is that 2025 is the series’ first term as part of a new media contract for America with FOX. The network will broadcast each race live and Fox also demanded the Labor Day finale.

IndyCar agreed to move the season finale forward to the Labor Day weekend as it prevents FOX from facing any broadcasting clashes with the NFL, which is the network’s crown jewel. Now, IndyCar will have its moment in the spotlight before America’s eyes switch to the NFL.

How many oval circuits are there in the 2025 IndyCar Series calendar?

The 2025 IndyCar Series calendar ends in August at the 1.33-mile D-shaped concrete oval at the Nashville Superspeedway. It is one of six races that IndyCar will hold on oval circuits in 2025, headlined by the Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s 2.5-mile square-oval.

IndyCar will also visit the World Wide Technology Raceway’s 1.25-mile egg-shape oval, Iowa Speedway’s 0.875-mile tri-oval and the Milwaukee Mile’s one-mile oval across the season in 2025. Iowa Speedway is the only circuit to stage two races on the same track layout in 2025.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will also stage two IndyCar rounds in 2025, with one race held on the road course ahead of the iconic Indy 500 on the square-oval. The 109th running of the Indy 500 also pits IndyCar’s flagship race on the same day as F1’s Monaco Grand Prix.
