Formula 3 have taken a huge step in their aim to give young drivers the best chance to progress through the ranks with the announcement of their new car.
The new machine was unveiled during the weekend of the Italian Grand Prix and will be used for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 seasons.
Formula 3’s new car is powered by a bespoke 6-cylinder 3.4-litre naturally aspirated Mecachrome engine and follows in F2 and F1’s footsteps in terms of affordable costs and safety systems.
The car will also run on Aramco’s advanced fuel to comply with the FIA’s rule of 100% sustainable fuel standards next year. F3 say its design will boost overtaking opportunities and provide exciting on track action.

Furthermore, the car features a newly designed cockpit, which is built to suit and accommodate for a range of different racers.

And speaking on the F3 website following the announcement of the new car, that feature is exactly what FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is particularly ‘proud’ of as F3 enters a new era.
“The unveiling of the FIA Formula 3 2025 car marks a pivotal moment in our commitment to developing the next generation of racing talent,” he said.
“This car is more than just a step forward in technology and sustainability; it represents a critical step in the FIA’s single-seater ladder. By aligning closely with FIA Formula 2 and Formula 1 aerodynamics, the new F3 car offers young drivers an essential platform to develop their skills, preparing them for the challenges that lie ahead in the higher categories.
“In addition to updated safety and performance, we are proud that this new generation of cars integrates cutting-edge technology initiatives aimed at helping to reduce racing carbon emissions, running on advanced fuel that meets the FIA’s 100% sustainable fuel standard, just like Formula 1 from 2026. This demonstrates our commitment to work towards lowering motorsport’s greenhouse gas emissions while driving innovation.
“Moreover, the enhanced cockpit design reflects our ongoing efforts to make motorsport more inclusive, ensuring that drivers of all physical profiles have the opportunity to compete at the highest level. This new FIA Formula 3 embodies the FIA’s vision of a sport that is progressive, inclusive, and sustainable.”

The F3 title will go down to the wire at Monza
The Italian Grand Prix weekend marks the conclusion of the 2024 F3 season in what has been one of the closest and most competitive in its history.
Six drivers were in with a chance of winning the title going into the weekend. Oliver Goethe had been the seventh but the German was promoted to F2 following Franco Colapinto’s promotion to F1 with Williams.
Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli extended his lead in the Sprint Race to five points over fellow Italian Gabriele Mini by finishing fifth. With Arvid Lindblad finishing outside the points, it is now more than likely between the homegrown talents and Luke Browning for the F3 crown.
With Fornaroli starting on pole for the Feature Race, the Trident is in a good position to claim the title.
