Montoya is facing a difficult predicament after the Formula 3 season ended in September after the final round at Monza, and FIA F2 continues until December.
Multiple F3 drivers have graduated to the next level during the final three rounds of the year to gather experience ahead of returning to Formula 2 in 2025.

Luke Browning drove well on his debut, scoring points, while Gabriele Mini drove to third place in the Sprint Race in Azerbaijan.
Montoya hasn’t been able to secure a seat in FIA F2 so far and is missing vital experience while sitting on the sidelines.
The Colombian former Formula 1 driver explained that his son has already decided to move categories and they are just waiting for others to come to agreements.
He said, “It’s really so stressful, and for Sebastian, it’s also a horrible situation because the Formula 3 season is over. We are already committed to moving categories now.
“There is nothing in Formula 3 so now in your head what is coming now and there are good options but the F2 championship ends in December and the truth is there is not much desire but there are still three or four free seats in F2.
“Realistically, we have in one we are candidates a for that seat and the other candidates b. The truth is I’m waiting for people to make decisions.”
There are very few seats left in Formula 2 ahead of the 2025 season
As there are just a few seats left in Formula 2 for next season acording to Montoya, it makes the prospect of racing in the championship a difficult one.
F2 is the final step on the pyramid up to Formula 1, and many drivers want to race in the series to have an opportunity to impress.
There could still be an opportunity for Montoya to make the step up, but the lacklustre FIA F3 season may not make him the best prospect for F2 teams.
