Sebastian Montoya has been competing in FIA Formula 3 for the past couple of seasons, honing his craft with Hitech and Campos.
The Colombian driver has had varying levels of success over his two full seasons in the championship. Montoya took his first podium in the series last year in Australia, with second place in the Sprint Race.
This season was very difficult at times, struggling for raw speed and consistency, only scoring points on six occasions in 2024.
He should be looking to move on from FIA F3 after two years in the series, as a third campaign rarely has any meaningful benefit for a driver.
The 19-year-old has been looking to sign a contract for the 2025 season, and admitted Montoya made life complicated for some F2 teams this year.

Montoya struggled at times in FIA F3 but did have good pace at times in a very competitive junior championship.
Despite enduring a difficult time in Formula 3, the Colombian has been more successful further down the ladder in Formula 4, being a consistent frontrunner in Italian F4.

Montoya has been pushing his son throughout his career and is adamant he is on the verge of being fully prepared for the 2025 campaign.
He said: “We’re talking about Sebastian, and I can’t say it officially, but we are practically ready for next year but this isn’t announced until Abu Dhabi.
“We’re really ready for next year, but there’s still a season left, and then we’ll wait and see to announce it when the team wants to announce it officially, but the truth is we’re very happy.”
Sebastian Montoya’s logical next step is Formula 2 for 2025
Montoya may be still pushing to progress towards Formula 1, and the next step for the Colombian should be Formula 2 for next season.
The Formula 2 championship is a significant step up from FIA F3 as the car is much heavier and more powerful, there will still be the added pressure of racing in the same events as F1.
Montoya will have to learn some new track such as the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia which adds another layer of complication, if he moves to F2.
He has also raced in endurance racing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, but he is much more experienced in single-seaters.
