Maximilian Gunther will be taking on the new era of Formula E in Season 11 with a new outfit.
The German will be racing with DS Penske for the 2024/25 season, returning to the team he began his Formula E career with back in 2018/19 when it was known as GEOX Dragon.
Gunther joins from Maserati after spending two seasons with the team and he has done a straight swap with Season Eight champion Stoffel Vandoorne, who will leave DS Penske and take the German’s place.
Gunther’s teammate for the 2024/25 season will be two-time champion Jean-Eric Vergne, who has been with DS for much of his FE career, racing for the likes of DS Virgin, DS Techeetah and has spent the last two years with DS Penske.
Maximilian Gunther ‘can’t wait to drive’ DS Penske’s Gen3 Evo machine
On Wednesday, DS Penske became the first team to unveil their Gen3 Evo machine for the 2024/25 season, which will be the fastest single-seater FIA car.

Being able to accelerate from O-60mph in just 1.82 seconds, the new era of FE is 30% faster than a current Formula 1 car thanks to its four-wheel drive and the introduction of softer Hankook tyres for this season.
DS Penske will sport a new livery for the 2024/25 season which is inspired by their one-off look at Monaco in Season 10. The car is predominately black with slim gold trimmings around the bodywork.
The team will be hoping the DS E-TENSE FE25 will allow them to challenge the frontrunners this year, having finished third in the Teams’ Championship in Season 10, 132 points behind Porsche in second and 168 points behind the champions Jaguar.
And newcomer Gunther expressed his excitement about DS Penske’s new machine on Instagram after it was unveiled, writing: “Can’t wait to drive it!!” followed by two fire emojis.
What has Maximilian Gunther’s Formula E career been like?
Gunther began his FE career in Season Five with GEOX Dragon – now DS Penske – where he only registered two points finishes.
The 27-year-old moved to BMW / Andretti Autosport the following year and spent the next two seasons with the team. It took him three races to claim his first win in FE in Santiago and he went on to win two more with the team over the next two years at Berlin in 2020 and New York in 2021.

For Season Eight, Gunther moved to Nissan e.dams and endured a torrid time. The 27-year-old registered just six points all year in what is his lowest-scoring season in the series to date.
Gunther made the switch to Maserati for Season Nine and grabbed one win and four podiums to finish seventh with 101 points; his best result to date. Last year, he grabbed a win in Tokyo and finished third in Misano to finish eighth in the standings.
