Alex Palou has enjoyed an excellent start to his career in IndyCar, winning three championships in the past four seasons.
The Spaniard has been the class of the field while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing and even clinched his second championship in 2023 at Portland before the final race of the season in IndyCar.
Palou drove with metronomic consistency last season to win his third title, taking just two wins in events that counted towards the championship.
He even bounced back from mechanical trouble at the Milwaukee Mile to keep the championship within his grasp.
The 27-year-old had an unortodox route to IndyCar, ascending the junior ranks of Formula 1 while gathering experience in Japan.
When speaking to DailySportsCar, he explained he would like to broaden his horizons in motorsport and compete in more races outside of single-seater action.

Palou has been very successful in single-seaters, winning three IndyCar titles as well as challenging for the championship in Super Formula.
Alongside his prowess in open-wheel cars, the Spaniard has driven in GT cars and prototypes in endurance racing. He competed in Super GT in Japan in 2019 in a McLaren 720S GT3 car.
The three-time IndyCar champion has also raced at the Daytona 24 Hours and at Le Mans for Cadillac, finishing in the top 10 on all three occasions.

He has yet to compete in Australia and admitted he would like to race at the Bathurst 12 Hour, but only if he had the opportunity to be competitive.
Palou said: “There’s more, but one that I would love to do next would be Bathurst. I would love to drive that if I have the preparation so I can go and compete. I would not like to do it to be 35th – I think it’s not worth it. The plan is to try and do more endurance races when time allows.”

The three-time IndyCar champion has been incredibly successful, but he is still without a win on an oval circuit.
They are unique and take a lot of time to adjust to for a European driver, as banking is very rarely seen in racing in Europe.
Palou is adamant he is still acclimatising to ovals in IndyCar despite taking pole position at the Indy 500 in 2023 on his way to the championship.
Winning on an oval isn’t essential to winning the title in IndyCar, but they are a critical aspect of the series, as seven races were held on ovals in 2024.
