It’s hard to think of how Chip Ganassi Racing can actually be any better after a stellar 2024, winning the IndyCar drivers’ championship with Alex Palou.
They have two of the best in the business behind the wheel in Palou and Scott Dixon, who combined for four victories this year.
But it’s all change at the team for 2025, with their five-car operation set to downsize to three ahead of the charter system.
That will allow more of their focus to be on the cars challenging at the front, rather than worrying about how to get all five inside the top 10 every weekend.
Chip Ganassi ‘in a better position’ to defend IndyCar title
Having fewer cars means that they will be forced to cut two drivers from their line-up, possibly leaving Kyffin Simpson, Marcus Armstrong, and Linus Lundqvist without a seat.
Their focus is winning however, and they have two of the most successful to ever grace tarmac in the sport over the last 20 years.
Speaking about why the downsizing is happening, the team mentioned a variety of reasons behind the move.

“Because of changes that are happening in the industry and with our organization specifically, Chip Ganassi Racing needed to right-size the team as we move forward,” the team told RACER.
“The decisions did not come without anguish, but it puts Chip Ganassi Racing in a better position as we begin preparations to defend our IndyCar Series championship in 2025.”
Who is confirmed at Chip Ganassi for 2025 so far?
Only one driver is confirmed to be driving for Chip Ganassi in 2025, with Palou having signed a multi-year deal.
Dixon is yet to confirm what he will do yet but at the age of 44, he could be having all sorts of considerations – he is expected to return though.
Alexander Rossi is the big free agent on the market and could be an option in the third car, but Romain Grosjean could also be in the frame too.

Staying with the theme of ex-Formula 1 drivers, the soon to be out of contract Valtteri Bottas has flirted with the idea of moving to North America and would be an excellent acquisition for the team.
He brings a championship-winning mindset and experience at the top level that very few people have on top of bundles of talent.
