The Team Penske driver has competed in a range of cars across his motorsport career and has taken two IndyCar titles to date.
A superb season in 2014, taking three wins, was enough to get the better of his nearest rival Helio Castroneves and win his first championship.
His second title, however, only followed in 2022 as Power claimed the crown after a hard-fought season finale at Laguna Seca with his Team Penske teammate, Josef Newgarden.
Will Power won an IndyCar race in every season from 2008-2022
The Australian driver has shown incredible consistency over his IndyCar career, taking at least one race win every year from 2008-2022 until a winless season in 2023.
After three years in Champ Car, before the series unified with the Indy Racing League, he began his IndyCar career in 2008 with KV Racing Technology.
A difficult season unfolded as he finished 12th in the standings; a dominant victory at Long Beach was a rare highlight for the Australian. He only finished in the top five twice more that year at Mid-Ohio and Chicagoland Speedway.
A switch to Penske Racing in 2009 yielded a win on the streets of Edmonton before his season ended early after a crash in practice at Sonoma.
The next three seasons saw Power compete at the very front of the field, finishing second in the standings on all three occasions for the newly renamed Team Penske.
Six victories in 2011, the most of any driver that year, was not enough to take the title away from Dario Franchitti in a very competitive season.
After multiple near misses, everything clicked for the Team Penske driver in 2014, taking three wins and finishing no lower than 14th.
A devastating run in the opening seven rounds from St. Petersburg to Texas Motor Speedway allowed Power to take control of the title race.
In that sequence, he stood on the podium five times and maintained his good form until the end of the season.
For the next six years, he finished no lower than fifth in the championship standings, consistently challenging for race wins until a more difficult year in 2021 when he slumped to ninth place.
But after a tricky 2021, he changed his approach in a move that paid off as Power won his second IndyCar title.
He said, via the IndyCar website: “You’re not going to win every race, so it’s just getting the most out of every situation. That’s really what I have been doing this year.”
Will Power tested a Minardi Formula 1 car in 2004
Power has been incredibly successful throughout his career, taking two IndyCar titles as well as racing in V8 Supercars and representing Team Australia in A1 Grand Prix.
His career could’ve taken a very different path before he raced in Champ Car, though. The Australian finished ninth in British Formula 3 in 2004 and also undertook duties as a test driver for Minardi in Formula 1.
At the end of the season, Power conducted a test at Autodromo Santamonica alongside fellow Australian Will Davison and Israeli driver Chanoch Nissany.
Power set a best lap time of 1:11.790 after 22 laps, quicker than Nissany and Tiago Monteiro, who went on to race in Formula 1 and scored a third-place finish at the farcical 2005 United States Grand Prix.
The Australian said, via italiaspeed.com, after the test: “It was very, very impressive, like nothing else I’ve ever driven. You just can’t describe the brakes and the power.
“But, ultimately, it’s just another car, and you have to get used to it and become physically fit enough to drive race distances in it if you’re going to do F1.”
The F1 test in Italy didn’t open any doors for Power to race in Formula 1 and he competed in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2005 for Carlin Motorsport, before moving to America and racing competitively there.
