Katherine Legge undertook a partial IndyCar campaign this season for Dale Coyne Racing by driving in all of the oval races.
This arrived with some challenges with a lot less track time than most of the rest of the drivers on the IndyCar grid who competed at all 17 rounds.
Yet Legge drove well for one of the teams on the grid with the least resources. She finished all seven races with a best result of 15th at the Milwaukee Mile in the second race of the weekend.
The British driver initially returned to IndyCar for the first time in 10 years at the Indy 500 last year. But Legge has admitted on the IndyCar YouTube channel that she would have liked to adjust to the car at a quicker rate during her partial campaign.
Legge also challenged the IndyCar field to drive as well as she can in IMSA while having as little track time as she had this season.

Legge kicked off her partial season at the 108th Running of the Indy 500, five races behind most of the grid which created a steep learning curve in the month of May.
Despite the event at The Brickyard being the Dale Coyne Racing driver’s first event, she made the field, avoiding getting bumped in Last Chance Qualifying.

Alongside Legge’s six IndyCar races, the 44-year-old competed in a couple of IMSA events in the GTD class for Gradient Racing.
She explained that it was a difficult return to IndyCar at last season’s Indy 500 and the rest of the field have all the basics consolidated at the start of a weekend.
“It was a big challenge coming back last year for Indy having not driven an IndyCar for 10 years. These guys, they’re going in and out of pit lane hundreds of times a month, and they’re just dialled into the car.
“It would be like me telling them to get in my IMSA car and go do as good a job as everybody else out there, it takes a minute. Yes, I have the experience to call upon, but it was a while ago, right? So that jumping back in was a challenge. I thought I would get back up and to speed quicker than I did.”

The IndyCar field is incredibly competitive and the series is welcoming a two-car entry from PREMA for 2025.
There has been much movement up and down the grid, with Marcus Armstrong joining Meyer Shank Racing and Christian Lundgaard moving to Arrow McLaren.
But Legge explained that “there are no plans to do a full season” in IndyCar next year, and it could be a year that includes racing in other championships.
