Andretti will have a new structure in 2025, as Michael – the owner of the team, steps into an ambassadorial and advisory role.
It means that Group 1001 CEO Dan Towriss will take ownership of the organisation which was founded in 2002.
There were rumours that Towriss had already bought an ownership stake in the team back in 2022, but they remain unverified.
Where it leaves their Formula 1 entry efforts is unknown, with the Andretti team appearing no closer to entering the grid in the next few years.
Michael Andretti is ‘excited’ to see project take shape
Andretti have been pursuing an avenue onto the Formula 1 grid since 2021, and recently took major steps in creating the infrastructure to be able to enter for 2028.
Their plot to join for 2025 was thrown out by Formula One Management, but they appear set on finding their way into the sport over the new few years.
Speaking in a press release, new owner Dan Towriss discussed how things will work at the team in the future.

“Michael’s goal has been to transition to a more strategic role with Andretti Global and focus less on the operational side of the race team,” he said.
“Michael and Dan Towriss have been working closely on developing this new structure, one which Michael is excited to see take shape under Dan’s guidance.
“Michael remains engaged and will continue to serve as a strategic advisor and key ambassador. We will have more to share in the coming weeks, after Michael and Dan have had an opportunity to speak to the team,”
Andretti’s quest for another IndyCar title
Andretti have won four drivers’ championships throughout their time on the IndyCar grid, which is less than you would expect.
They have been regular title contenders, and in the fight for victory at almost every race for years in the series.
Their next best hope appears to be Colton Herta, who recently finished runner-up to Alex Palou in the 2024 season after taking two victories.

That included a first around ovals for the American driver, who may finally have cracked the code of the tricky layout and could make a title charge next year.
With a little bit more consistency, he could be the one to finally bring the overall silverware back to the organisation after 13 years.
