The IndyCar grid is ticking towards completion for the 2025 season, with more and more seats snapped up by the day.
The new entry for 2025 – Italian outfit Prema, announced Callum Ilott as one of their drivers this week after taking their time to make a decision.
There are still some great options for them to choose from, with a few free agents still left and some younger drivers looking for a chance too.
It will be intriguing to see whether they go on the side of experience, or opt to hand a promising young gun a chance.
The experienced options on the market that Prema have
It was recently confirmed that Rinus VeeKay would not be continuing with Ed Carpenter Racing in 2025, making him a viable option for Prema.
The Dutchman has plenty of IndyCar experience – which will be very necessary for the Italian team to hit the ground running in their first season.
He failed to score a top 10 this year, but he could be revitalised under a new program and would be a clever acquisition.
Another experienced campaigner is Alexander Rossi, who failed to come to an agreement with McLaren and is a free agent too after the 2024 season.
An Indy 500 winner, it would be a big project for him to spend what could be some of his prime years assisting a new project which could take a while to get up to speed, but it could also be very rewarding.
The youth looking for an opening in IndyCar
There are also plenty of drivers who are desperate to graduate and receive an opportunity to drive in IndyCar in a full-time capacity.
Indy NXT champion Louis Foster, who won eight of the 14 races this season, is a talent who deserves a drive but is yet to receive a call.

He has a promised Indy 500 drive as a reward for his performances but could be left without a seat if the puzzle around him continues to be solved.
There are two other Indy NXT stars who are on the lookout for 2025 opportunities with race winners Jacob Abel and Jamie Chadwick on the market too.
The problem for most of these young drivers currently, appears to be that those with funding are in the best position to be picked for any drive.
