The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team in IndyCar have been floundering at the back of the field for multiple seasons.

They have struggled to find consistency in IndyCar despite the occasional highlight, such as Christian Lundgaard’s third-place finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.

The RLL team have had particular struggles on ovals, which held the team back, especially in the month of May as they struggled at the Indy 500.

Louis Foster will join the team ahead of the 2025 season after a superb junior career, taking the Indy NXT title this season.

RLL co-owner Bobby Rahal explained to the official IndyCar website that he is anticipating Foster to perform well and be a key part of the team’s improvement.

The Rahal Letterman Lanigan team have struggled despite having a strong driver line-up with experience of IndyCar and how to manage a race.

Despite the struggles on ovals, the team have performed well on road courses and street circuits which can be difficult to manage, with different downforce levels.

Ovals will need to be improved as they are a key part of the calendar, with the Indy 500 and doubleheader events at Iowa Speedway.

Rahal explained that the team have good expectations ahead of 2025 with two strong drivers as they continue to look for a third driver.

He said: “It’s all about improving our oval track performance. And the races were not too bad. We’re continuing to do what we can to improve ourselves.

“I think Louis (Foster) is part of that, frankly. There’s a lot of experience with Graham, who’s got a great feel for setting up cars for the race, in particular.

“I think the combination of the two and whomever we might attract for the third seat, I think it’s — we naturally have big expectations for ’25.”

Rahal Letterman Lanigan need to select their third driver wisely

The Rahal Letterman Lanigan team have two very competitive drivers heading into the 2025 season in Rahal and Foster.

Foster has also proven he can race on an oval, winning four races on that type of circuit this season on his way to the Indy NXT championship.

They team are looking for a third driver, which could be Juri Vips he drove for the team at Portland earlier this season, finishing in 19th place.

Other contenders include Theo Pourchaire, who will drive in the WEC post-season rookie test after enduring a frustrating season.
