Jorge Martin is a model of MotoGP consistency and has finished lower than fourth on just three separate occasions in 2024.
He has taken five fewer victories than second-placed Francesco Bagnaia but has shown an incredible level of consistency to hold a 20-point advantage with three races to go.
Martin’s a bit of a second-place master in MotoGP himself, securing eight so far this season – the most recent of which was in an epic Australian showdown with Marc Marquez.
A lot can change in three races, but if Martin’s form is anything to go by, it will take something special for Bagnaia to prevent him from running away with a first title.
Jorge Martin will ‘not give information away’ in MotoGP title race
Arguably, the final three races of the 2023 season are what cost Martin a shot at the championship in his third season.
Crashing out in an incident with Marc Marquez in the Valencia finale allowed current rival Bagnaia to claim his second consecutive crown.
Now he must avoid a repeat of that feat to prevent the Italian from making it three in a row for the Ducati Lenovo Team.
According to Motorsport.com, someone close to Martin informed them that he would be hiding information if they are aware that he is in a good position at any of the remaining events.
“On the circuits where we know Jorge has some margin, we will not show everything from the first moment, we are not going to give that information away.”
Who is in the prime seat for the MotoGP title?
Bagnaia knows exactly what it takes to win the championship, and that experience will be vital in the final three races of the season.
Thailand, Malaysia and Spain all play host to the remaining events this year – and they’re all events that Martin is yet to finish inside the top two of.
He’s going to need a few more of them if he wants to guarantee his first major silverware in the series, but there’s pressure on Bagnaia too.
The Italian probably needs to win at least two more races to reign victorious, taking his tally to at least 10 for the season.
It has been a dominant performance from both throughout the year, and it’s set up for a tantalising finish over the next month.
