It has been two years since Mick Schumacher left Formula 1 after a tricky few seasons with the American Haas outfit.
Before long he had signed with his father’s old employer – Mercedes, as a reserve driver and continues to wait for another call-up to the sport he loves.
For now, he continues to race Hypercars in WEC with Alpine and recently secured his first podium in the series at Fuji.
It’s no secret that the German wants a Formula 1 return to have a fair crack at proving his talent again, but it appears that for 2025 at least, he will have to wait a little longer.
Mick Schumacher ‘confident’ that he will race in WEC for 2025
It has been a season of improvement for Alpine’s WEC operation, having started out with poor reliability and a very slow engine.
Their gradual improvements seem to have paid off, culminating in a podium at Fuji, which came as a little bit of a shock.
Their best result in six races before that was a ninth-place, and Schumacher himself sits 18th in the drivers’ standings.

Speaking to Sky Sport Formel 1, he revealed that he is pretty sure of what he will be doing in 2025 already with just a few races of the WEC season to go.
“We are all confident that I will continue to do this,” he said, confirming that he intends to stay with Alpine for the future.
Could there be a possible Formula 1 opening in 2026?
His hard work as a simulator and test driver for Toto Wolff’s Mercedes outfit in Formula 1 is bound to keep helping him improve as a driver.
He was even reportedly under consideration for a drive with Alpine’s team, before they opted to go with academy driver Jack Doohan.
If Schumacher continues to impress, he could be in the frame for a seat in 2026, but it begs the question of who with?

If Alex Albon finds a way back to Red Bull if Sergio Perez’s dismal form continues, there could be an opening at Williams – although Franco Colapinto’s performances have thrust him into the front seat for that.
Could Doohan have a poor rookie season and be dropped for 2025, opening the door for Schumacher?
It all feels very unlikely, but stranger things have happened in motorsport and the German will continue to push for a Formula 1 berth.
