Hyundai have confirmed a third entry for a veteran World Rally Championship driver ahead of the ninth round of the 2024 season.
The Korean outfit currently lead both the drivers and the manufacturers’ championships, with Belgian Thierry Neuville leading the standings by 27 points over Sebastien Ogier.
The team have won three rallies this season a victory each for Neuville in Monaco, part time driver Esapekka Lappi at Sweden and Ott Tanak at Sardinia, with the latter sitting third in the championship.
While their rivals Toyota have double the rally wins with six in 2024, consistency from Hyundai’s full time drivers Neuville and Tanak have given the team a 20-point lead heading into Acropolis Rally Greece.
And ahead of the event, the team have announced that Dani Sordo will be given another chance to compete in a rally in 2024.

Sordo has competed in only two rallies so far in 2024 as the Spaniard’s future in the WRC is uncertain.
The 41-year-old had previously revealed that he only had two outings planned with Hyundai this year, with those appearances coming in Portugal and Sardinia.
Those appearances resulted in a fifth place finish in Portugal and a podium finish in Sardinia with third, leaving Sordo 10th overall in the championship with 27 points.
With his future plans after Sardinia then being unknown, the Spainard had hinted that the event could be his last appearance in the WRC.
When asked by motorsport.com after the Power Stage if he would return, he said: “I don’t know if you will see me again, let’s see.
“I have two rallies this year, I don’t want to talk about it now, so let’s see. I will finish this rally with a podium, and this will make me happy.”
Now, it seems that the Spaniard will be given at least one more outing in the championship with Hyundai as he is set to compete alongside Neuville and Tanak at Rally Greece.
Sordo has been competing in the WRC since 2003
Sordo is one of the most experienced drivers in the WRC having competed in the championship since 2003.
The Spaniard’s first rally was at his home nation at Rally Catalunya, where he finished 18th as his own entry.
He continued to race as a sole entry until he got a full time seat with Citroen in 2006. Sordo would achieve his best finish in the championship with the team as he registered third in 2008 and 2009.
Since 2010, the 41-year-old has made on and off appearances in the championship and has been with Hyundai since 2014.
In his career to date, Sordo has won three rallies, winning his first in 2013 in Germany and securing victory twice at Sardinia in 2019 and 2020.
