2025 IndyCar hopeful Logan Sargeant has lost his Formula 1 seat with Williams in the middle of the season, to be replaced by Formula 2 star Franco Colapinto.
The Argentine driver hasn’t been setting the world alight this season, sitting sixth in the drivers’ championship, but did take a win in the Sprint Race at Imola.
It took him a while to find some consistency, but since he has, he has featured inside the top five on multiple occasions in Formula 2.
An impressive showing during FP1 at the British Grand Prix for Williams impressed the team, enough for them to lay their faith in him for the remainder of 2024.
Formula 2 stars praise Franco Colapinto after F1 promotion with Williams
Colapinto has been racing in Formula 2 since the final round of the 2023 season, where he stood in for MP Motorsport – the team he drives for this season too.
His teammate, Dennis Hauger, sits just behind him in the championship race in eighth, having also taken a singular victory this season.

Their efforts have left MP Motorsport third in the team standings, just 24 points from the top duo of Campos and Invicta Racing.
There have been no updates on who Colapinto’s Formula 2 replacement will be yet, but they have multiple options and could even promote from Formula 3 if they prefer.
The likes of Amaury Cordeel, Enzo Fittipaldi and Richard Verschoor all took to Instagram to wish him good luck and congratulations on his promotion.
Colapinto on his Instagram said: “No words, very very happy!” before Enzo Fittipaldi replied: “Congratulations my friend!!! Best of luck!!!”
Verschoor added: “Congrats Franco, best of luck! Make us proud,” before Pepe Marti said: “Congratulations Franco and Argentina!”
Why Colapinto faces an uphill task at Williams
Replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams is going to be a tough task, in a car that is yet to pick up any points this season.
Despite his inexperience, Colapinto will be expected to keep the car out of the wall and continue to develop his driving as Williams assess what sort of talent they have on their hands.

It could be an excellent opportunity for him to showcase his skills with the hope of securing a Formula 1 drive in the future, but it could also dent his confidence going up against a very dependable Alex Albon.
Williams are rooted to ninth-place in the constructors’ championship and will need both of their drivers to lift them up as high as possible in the remaining races – maybe even to seventh, equalling last year’s result.
If not, they will lose out on a lot of prize money, damaging their efforts to upgrade future chassis or replace parts, as they had problems with earlier this season.
