Joshua Durksen has improved significantly over his rookie season in Formula 2 this year and took his first win of the campaign in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Paraguayan took a few rounds to adapt to the Formula 2 championship, and it is a significant step up from FRECA in which Durksen raced in 2023.
Durksen wasn’t the only driver to skip FIA F3 this season, as Andrea Kimi Antonelli also took the same route to F2 after winning the FRECA championship.
He is also in contention to finish in the top 10 of the F2 championship standings after Durksen took victory in the Sprint Race last time out in Azerbaijan. But his attention is also already on securing a seat on the 2025 Formula 2 grid.
The Paraguayan explained while speaking to the Formula Latina YouTube channel that he has a clear idea of where he wants to drive next year, but is wary that nothing is confirmed.
Joshua Durksen believes staying with AIX Racing in Formula 2 is a ‘very strong option’
The Formula 2 grid for next season is beginning to take shape, with Arvid Lindblad stepping up from FIA F3 to race at Campos Racing. Formula 3 champion Leonardo Fornaroli will also graduate to F2 with Invicta Racing.
Durksen will be looking to join them in 2025 after improving throughout this season and leading AIX Racing to a much improved season and 10th in the standings, ahead of Van Amersfoort Racing.

The Paraguayan is also looking to remain in Formula 2 for a second season with AIX Racing, which is a possibility, despite F2 suffering with unreliability over the past few years.
He said: “The objective is to do one more year of Formula 2. Obviously, that is our target. Continuing with my team is a very strong option because I think we are working very well together.
“We are making a lot of progress. The team had a very difficult year last year and now this year we already have a total of 61 points or much more compared to last year and I think we are progressing very well. There is very good energy within the team, we understand each other very well.
“There is a very good relationship with everyone so I think it is a very strong possibility to continue with my team for one more year. but obviously there is still a little bit left to define all the things but the main idea is to have one more year in Formula 2.”

Durksen has finally raced consistently at the front of the field over the past two rounds, scoring podium finishes in Italy and Azerbaijan.
The 20-year-old would need to find more consistency over the season if he has ambitions of graduating to Formula 1, as a third year rarely has a lot of benefit.
Durksen may also be taking a risk by staying with AIX Racing in 2025 as although they have improved, Invicta Racing and Campos are at the top of the standings and have been significant quicker.
On the other hand, Durksen has proven that he can adapt quickly and returning to a lot of the circuits in F2 next year would be a benefit after a year of learning in 2024.
