Andrea Kimi Antonelli is a driver who appears destined for stardom and is one of the most highly touted prospects in recent Formula 1 history.
Most impressive, is that he has managed to earn this name for himself all without enjoying anywhere near a record-breaking Formula 2 campaign.
He has won the odd race, but he isn’t close to contending for the championship – and yet somehow he has landed himself a premiere drive in the pinnacle of motorsport for 2025.
There’s going to be pressure on the 18-year-old’s shoulders when he climbs into a Mercedes cockpit, but he has the support network around him to achieve big things.
Ignoring Andrea Kimi Antonelli rumours has been ‘quite difficult’
Antonelli has been on quite a journey in 2024, stepping up to race the faster cars of his career so far, and doing so at a very young age.
He has been thrown into the deep end a bit, and that showed with his FP1 crash for Mercedes in Monza, but his confidence with the car is truly admirable.
Speaking about the difficulties of managing such a coveted driver, PREMA boss Rene Rosin mentioned how it has been a tricky year for that aspect of the job.

“He’s a great talent,” he told The Inside Line podcast. “His road now is already decided to move into Formula 1 next year. He still has to learn a lot.
“He’s still young. But he has all the potential to do a very good job. he doesn’t need something incredible. He won Formula 4, he won Formula Regional.
“When we are together, we’re always trying to do our job. Not considering what has been told outside, even through the season has been quite difficult with all the rumours that have been up, up and up.”
What to expect from Antonelli’s rookie Formula 1 season
Admittedly, the Silver Arrows aren’t the same dominant force that they were just a few years ago, but they are geared towards success.
Toto Wolff has assembled a strong team, who have still competed for race victories despite suffering a poor season in 2024.
It means that Antonelli should get the opportunity to compete for a victory at some stage in his first season.
There will be a lot of pressure on his young shoulders, but how he copes with that will be a true test of his suitability for such a role.
If he does manage to keep up with expectations, then Max Verstappen may just have himself a new challenger for the foreseeable future.
