Richard Verschoor is switching teams for the final two rounds of the season in Formula 2 and in 2025 as he joins MP Motorsport.
The Dutchman has had a mixed season so far in F2, showing blistering speed but suffering from a lot of bad luck.
Verschoor raced for Trident and lost two Sprint Race victories, but he got disqualified after the chequered flag fell at the end of the race.
He lost valuable points in Saudi Arabia and Hungary as he struggled at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and at Silverstone, scoring no points.
The Trident driver eventually scored a victory in Azerbaijan, although Verschoor’s previous disqualifications made it harder to enjoy the podium.
Verschoor is replacing Dennis Hauger in Qatar and Abu Dhabi and told nl.motorsport there is one championship he would enjoy in particular after racing in F2 next year.

Verschoor is very experienced in Formula 2 as he is approaching the end of his fifth season in the championship.
Although the Dutchman hasn’t been able to challenge for a title, he has been competitive, taking podiums and wins.
IndyCar is becoming more popular among European drivers who want to race in single-seaters at a very high level.
Verschoor would like to race in the championship but admitted it came slightly to early to race there now and leave Europe.

He said: “I have already spoken to some teams towards 2025 and thought about maybe doing an IndyCar test, but then this opportunity came along.
“IndyCar is definitely something I would like to do for the longer term, although it came a bit too early now. Formula 2 is also very attractive to all my partners, partly because they can go to races and experience a Formula 1 weekend. And as I said, I really want to try to really fight for the title for one more season.”

IndyCar is very different to the junior categories below Formula 1, as ovals are part of the calendar, as well as road and street courses.
Verschoor would have to grasp ovals, as they are almost non-existent in European racing. They are tricky to master with the weight jacker and judge how to manage traffic.
More European drivers, such as PREMA’s Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman, are racing in IndyCar after being overlooked by F1 teams.
Despite not growing up with ovals, Spaniard Alex Palou has won three titles and looks to emulate Dario Franchitti in 2025.
