Richard Verschoor navigated a tricky Azerbaijan Feature Race to finally secure his first win of the Formula 2 season for Trident.
In fact, it’s third time lucky for the Dutchman who was disqualified from both the Spa and Hungary Sprint Races after winning them both.
This time, there appears to be no infringements and he can enjoy the silverware without having it snatched away from his grasp.
Formula 2 now heads on a two-month break before returning to action at the Qatar Grand Prix weekend in November.

Having two months off in the middle of the racing season is a rare privilege for drivers up and down the grid.
Some may use it as an opportunity to put in extra work in the simulator or on their fitness, while others may use it to recharge their batteries a little.
Verschoor has revealed where he will be spending his downtime before Qatar, and it certainly sounds exotic!

“I’m going on a very nice holiday. So I go three weeks to Bali,” he told GPblog. “I’m excited for that. The season has been quite tough, also mentally a lot of things happened.
“I’m looking forward to doing some weeks without racing. Of course as a driver point of view it would be nice to have a race maybe in between before Abu Dhabi,”
What can Verschoor expect from the rest of 2024?
Verschoor lifted himself into the top 10 of the drivers’ championship with his impressive Baku win, which appears to be where he has consistently placed in most of his four seasons in the series.
He has claimed one singular victory in every season that he has competed in, but he might be on the hunt for a little more in the final three rounds of the season.
Realistically, he could end up inside the top eight if he continues his impressive run of form, but that requires him to perform at tracks which are very different to Azerbaijan’s street circuit.

The hot temperatures of Qatar and Abu Dhabi will be tricky to contend with, but Formula 2 can be a lottery and Verschoor will be aware of what he has to do in order to perform.
Whether or not he remains in the series for a fifth season in 2025 is unknown yet, but it’s hard to see him continuing too much longer without finally challenging for the drivers’ title.
