Richard Verschoor has confirmed his spot on the 2025 Formula 2 grid as he departs Trident before the end of this season.
The Dutchman has joined MP Motorsport and will race with the team for the final two rounds of the 2024 campaign and for next season.
The 23-year-old comes in as the replacement for Dennis Hauger, with the Norwegian moving over to Indy NXT in 2025 with Andretti.
Verschoor is almost a Formula 2 veteran with next season being his fifth year in the category. The Dutchman has won a race in every season he has competed in and has driven for four different teams.

Verschoor makes his return to MP Motorsport having raced with the team in Formula Renault, GP3, Formula 3 and hw made his debut in F2 with them in 2021.
Due to financial issues, the Dutchman left the team before the final two rounds of the season, but he was called up to replace Enzo Fittipaldi at Charouz Racing System in Abu Dhabi and later joined Trident for the 2022 season.

Finishing 12th in the standings that year, Verschoor moved to Van Amersfoort Racing and had his best season to date as he finished ninth with 108 points.
The 23-year-old returned to Trident in 2024 and currently sits 10th in the standings as he moves back to MP. Verschoor comes with significant financial backing, and speaking on the RacingNews365 YouTube channel, Tom Coronel expressed his respect to the Dutchman for getting himself these opportunities in F2.
“I just like how he handles it all,” he said. “I think that’s so clever of him. He knows how to trigger the sponsors, he knows how to gather the people around us by simply raising more than a million from the market.
“He really does everything himself and I just seriously respect that.”

The 2024 season has been a frustrating year for Verschoor for the most part as he managed just four points finishes from the opening 17 races.
The Dutchman did grab victories in the Sprint Races at Jeddah and Budapest, but he was later disqualified from both races after his car was found to be uncompliant with the sporting regulations.

Verschoor has enjoyed a recent upturn in form with three third place finishes and his first win of the season in the last seven races, with his victory coming last time out in the Feature Race at Baku.
With momentum on his side, Verschoor will be hoping to carry that on with MP and have a strong fifth season in F2 with the team next year.
