Richard Verschoor will be racing with a new team in the final two rounds of the 2024 Formula 2 season, and they might offer him the best tools he’s had access to yet.
MP Motorsport, a team that hails from his Dutch homeland is an established and quick Formula 2 outfit who sit third in the constructors’ standings currently.
They recently replaced the Formula 1-bound Franco Colapinto with Formula 3 star Oliver Goethe, and now they’ve made another change.
Dennis Hauger is out, and Verschoor, who sits 10th in the championship with 81 points, is in for the rest of the season.
Richard Verschoor has ‘potential’ for Formula 2 title
It’s not every day that the most recent winner in the sport switches teams, but he’s probably done it with one eye on 2025.
After four seasons in Formula 2, Verschoor is probably getting to the now-or-never stage, aware that he has to win the whole thing soon, or risk being forgotten about.
He has the experience to come out on top, and now, for the first time, he might have the team that he needs to go to the very top.
The final two races of this season will be about getting used to his new surroundings and adapting to a new car.

Speaking on the RacingNews365 podcast, Tom Coronel mentioned that he believes the Dutchman could be in contention for the title in the future.
“I certainly see him having potential for a championship, yes 100%. Easy peasy. Why would Richard cannot become a champion. MP is a much stronger team than people think.”
Why Verschoor is in a great position to challenge
Having failed to do anything meaningful throughout the first half of the seasons, Verschoor sparked into life after a disqualification from the Hungary Sprint Race.
To that point, he had managed no podiums at all in 17 races – although he had been in the points during that run.
Since then, he has managed four podiums in seven races and a fifth place on top, so he has started to string some really solid results together.
That may be why MP have jumped at the opportunity to sign a driver trending in the right direction as soon as they can.
It’ll be this time next year before we know if the move paid off, and whether MP made a good call signing Verschoor.
