Jak Crawford has been very impressive in Formula 2 this season and sits fifth in the championship standings with two rounds to go.
The American driver hasn’t been consistent enough to challenge Isack Hadjar and Gabriel Bortoleto in the race for the championship, but he has been fast.
Crawford has stood on the podium five times this season and he took a superb victory in the Feature Race in Spain at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The Formula 2 championship is a spec series which means the cars have the same chassis and engine, making consistency very important.
Despite a competitive season so far for DAMS, Crawford is adamant, speaking to the official Formula 2 website, that he and the French team could have been further towards the front of the field.

Crawford is coming towards the end of his second season in Formula 2 and he has improved compared to last season.
The American driver has been more consistent and scored many more points on tracks he has raced at before.
He is also ahead of Mercedes’s new Formula 1 driver for 2025, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, in the championship standings.
The championship is full of talent, and multiple drivers, including Antonelli, are stepping up to F1. Bortoleto has been advised to step up to F1 if he wins the title.

Crawford explained he feels like he and DAMS could have scored more points in Formula 2 but small mistakes cost him.
He said: “I am happy with the points we have scored this year. I feel like we deserve more, but at the end of the day, a few inconsistencies have stopped us from getting more.
“It all starts in Qualifying, so when that doesn’t go right, the races are a lot trickier. We’ve been good over a long run, struggling a bit more over one lap, nailing the new car with the setup, also getting the tyres in the right window which is quite tricky.”

They are just 20 seats in Formula 1 with very few available for the 2025 season Crawford has been quick on some occasions over his stint in F2 but is unlikely to graduate from the series.
He has now competed in Formula 2 for nearly two years and hasn’t been consistent enough to challenge at the top of the standings.
A third season at the second tier of motorsport rarely has any meaningful benefit, with Theo Pourchaire winning the championship in his third year and failing to move up to F1 so far.
This means if Crawford were to remain in F2 next season he may be overlooked for a drive in Formula 1 once more.
