Pascal Wehrlein won the Formula E title for Porsche in his sixth season in the championship and has been successful in a range of cars across his career, so here’s everything you need to know about the German.
Wehrlein struggled initially in Formula E, scoring just one podium in his debut season at the Santiago ePrix in Chile for Mahindra Racing in the 2018/19 season.

Wehrlein delivered the first Formula E title for Porsche after multiple seasons of failing to challenge for the championship and two winless seasons.
They joined the series in the 2019/20 season with Neel Jani and Andre Lotterer, scoring a best finish of second place in Saudi Arabia. This was followed up by another runner-up finish in Berlin from Lotterer at his home event.
The 2020/21 season was much of the same with a second consecutive eighth place in the Teams’ Championship, scoring a couple of podiums along the way.
Wehrlein replaced Jani and took third place in the second race of the weekend in Rome before a series of finishes in the top five towards the end of the season.
The German driver eventually took his and Porsche’s first Formula E win at the Mexico City ePrix in 2022, sharing the podium with fellow former Formula 1 drivers Lotterer and Jean-Eric Vergne.
He kept up the momentum the following year as Wehrlein began to show the hallmarks of a potential championship challenger.
The Porsche driver took a double victory in Saudi Arabia before his third and final win of the year arrived in Jakarta.
The German manufacturer had slowly been creeping up on Envision Racing and Jaguar TCS Racing who set the pace in the 2022/23 season.
Wehrlein’s title-winning campaign kicked off with the best possible start, a superb victory from pole position ahead of Sebastien Buemi in Mexico City.
A run of five races off the podium followed, including a non-score in the first race of the weekend at Misano.
He would go on to win in the second race, reigniting his championship challenge with five rounds to go as Wehrlein aimed for a first title since the 2015 DTM series.
The German remained consistent throughout the remainder of the season, finishing in the top 10 in every race apart from a poor outing in the second race in China.
Wehrlein won the championship with a victory and second place in the final round of the season in London, capitalising on Nick Cassidy failing to finish.
Pascal Wehrlein scored Manor’s final point in Formula 1
Manor raced in Formula 1 from 2010-2016 under multiple different names, starting out as Virgin Racing in their debut campaign.
They were one of three new teams on the grid that season, alongside HRT and Lotus Racing who all struggled to make an impact and spent most of their time in F1 at the back of the field.
The team suffered huge financial struggles and collapsed at the end of 2014 before returning to the grid under the Manor-Marussia F1 Team name in 2015.
After four point-less seasons, the team finally scored their first points in Formula 1 at the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix. Jules Bianchi battled to eighth place at the chequered flag before being dropped to ninth place after taking a five-second penalty.
Heading into 2016, Manor had renewed optimism after switching to Mercedes engines, the best power unit in Formula 1 at the time and reigning DTM champion Wehrlein alongside Indonesian driver Rio Haryanto.
After a difficult start to the year, the Manor team took a step forward at the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix through the hands of the German.
He qualified in 12th place for the 71-lap race ahead of Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez. Wehrlein then kept out of trouble as multiple cars retired and the race leaders, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, made contact on the opening lap.
Perez retired with three laps to go, handing 10th place to Manor and Wehrlein after a season of struggling to gather tyre temperature and a car without the downforce and pure performance of the front runners.
