AJ Foyt Racing are one of many IndyCar teams facing a decision with regards to their 2025 driver line-up over the coming months.
In August, they secured the signature of the talented David Malukas on a multi-year deal, solving half of their problem.
But they still need to find someone to pair him up with, and they might just choose to settle with what they already have.
Santino Ferrucci has matured and enjoyed a stellar end to the 2024 season, taking a pair of fourth places at the Milwaukee Mile.
AJ Foyt ‘definitely talking’ to hot IndyCar talent over 2025 move
That might have put him in pole position for a seat to remain with his AJ Foyt Racing team, as he now sits 10th in the championship.
Ferrucci even took a pole position at Portland – AJ Foyt’s first in 10 years, proving his speed over the course of one lap.
Speaking about Ferrucci with RACER, AJ Foyt mentioned who he would prefer his 2025 line-up to consist of after some conversations with the team.

“Where we’re at, with what Santino has accomplished, we’re definitely talking and I don’t think you can let that go,” he said.
“He’s been a big part of helping us get back to where we want to be, so we would certainly love to keep him. I’m trying to get everything done now, and should know in a couple weeks.
“Within the next two weeks I’d like to know who our two drivers are so that we know exactly where we’re headed. It would be one of the earlier times in the past few years that we know exactly what we’re doing,” he continued.
“I think it just helps, and that’s why it’s just so important that your organization, and even outsiders, sees what direction you’re headed.”
Ferrucci still searching for more in hunt for podium
Speaking after the second race of the Milwaukee Mile, Ferrucci revealed how frustrated he was with failing to reach the IndyCar podium.
He feels like everything is there, and that it just needs to come together in order for him to achieve the feat.

His final opportunity of the year will fall at the season ending Nashville Superspeedway event this weekend, which plays host to a championship decider between Alex Palou, Will Power and Scott McLaughlin.
With so much pressure on the top guys, it could be a free opportunity for Ferrucci to apply some pressure and push for that breakthrough result.
He showed pace which could have challenged for the race win in Milwaukee, but failed to sustain it consistently, so extracting more from his car will be a key aim of the upcoming finale.
