Christian Lundgaard has earned himself a massive opportunity with McLaren ahead of the 2025 IndyCar season.
The Dane has been racing in North America for three seasons now and has proven that he is one of the stars of the future.
Although loyal to Rahal Letterman Lanigan, who he secured his first career victory with in 2023, he couldn’t refuse a call from McLaren.
He now joins up with Pato O’Ward and Nolan Siegel to form the youngest driver line-up on the grid for 2025.
Christian Lundgard wants to ‘learn as much’ as he can from Pato O’Ward
Lundgaard regressed ever so slightly in 2024, with three fewer top-10 finishes than the year before, and no victory to show for his efforts.
He is only 23 years old though, and to show as much pace as he has at a young age, without doing it in a front-running team is impressive.
It bodes well for his time with his new team, who are well-equipped to help him enjoy success at the highest level – just ask Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri in Formula 1.

Speaking to The Race, he discussed what he aims to do when he gets to partner up with a new teammate in the form of Pato O’Ward.
“We’re in the state where he’s established, in a team where I come in with, let’s say, the hunger, and I think that’s going to push him, and I’m obviously going to learn as much as I can from him in terms of how the car responds and reacts.
“But I’m just excited to see how we can evolve, and ideally to see how many championships we can win.”
Where must McLaren improve in 2025?
The only thing that prohibits McLaren from being considered a serious championship threat is their inability to remain consistent across the course of a whole season.
They cannot seem to reliably get on top of the Firestone rubber, and it leaves them short of pace at some events.
It’s their major weakness, which if fixed, could see them pushing Chip Ganassi Racing and Team Penske for best honours.

For now, they’re on a level similar to Andretti, who are no stranger to winning themselves, especially while they have an impressive young driver in Colton Herta.
Look out for the fight between McLaren and Andretti in 2025, because the two are eager to crack the IndyCar code and get in between the two powerhouse teams at the top.
