Ted Gelov has bought a stake in Ed Carpenter Racing which will his food company sponsor the IndyCar team in 2025.
It’s a move that comes after a few seasons of financial struggles, including running Rinus VeeKay’s car without a sponsor for much of 2024.
The Dutchman is out as a driver for next season, and new backing is in to support the number 20 and 21 cars with the Splenda and Java House brands.
It’s an important deal, which helps to secure the future of the team and give them a better opportunity of competing at the front of the IndyCar field.
‘Special’ new livery could be on its way in 2024 for Ed Carpenter Racing
Carpenter is currently without a driver for the 2025 season, having confirmed that VeeKay – who has been with them for five seasons, would not be returning.
It means that he will announce at least one new driver on Wednesday, depending on whether he opts to retain Christian Rasmussen as well.
Speaking about the new sponsorship deal on the Ed Carpenter Racing website, he shared a lot of optimism for the future.

“IndyCar is growing and attracting high-calibre brands and in Ted’s case, also a strong business partner for our team. Ted will help us to continue to strive for excellence both on and off the track.
“It’s fantastic to find a partner that so closely aligns with our values and shared vision for the future of Ed Carpenter Racing.
“We also plan on having a Java House or Splenda car on track next season, which would be special for us to work with one of our own brands. There is more to come!”
Who could Carpenter sign for 2025?
The American team have shown a willingness to work with rookies and young talent over the last few seasons.
First by giving VeeKay a chance at 19 years old, then Rasmussen when he was 23 after winning the Indy Lights championship.
With himself opting to step away from ovals at the end of last season and hand more laps to Rasmussen, he may have the faith to go with yet more youth.

There’s clearly a movement to invest in the future at the team, and there are plenty of options on the market that would allow them to do that.
Louis Foster, who just took Rasmussen’s Indy NXT (formerly Lights) crown from him, won eight of 14 races this year.
Jacob Abel who finished in second was also impressive, and has been hunting around for an opportunity to graduate – so watch out for those.
