It’s not every day that you see two cars collide on a straight piece of road – yet that’s the feat that Caio Collet and Jamie Chadwick achieved in Saturday’s Indy NXT race at Gateway.
While barrelling down the pit straight on lap seven of 75, Collet managed to slowly veer left towards Chadwick and the wall.
Before long, their tyres touched, hurling them into the wall at high-speed and leaving them with significant damage to their cars and championship hopes as they fight for an IndyCar promotion.
It left Chadwick forced to retire and Collet with damage bad enough for him to only complete 26 more laps.

The battle was for second place at the time, as the two who are both in the top five of the Indy NXT standings began to ramp up the pressure on each other.
It was a rather subdued end to what could have been a fascinating race-long battle – and one that could have been for the win eventually.
Ex-Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok shared his stern opinion on the matter when he said: “Err – you mean Jamie Chadwick got collected and dragged into the wall?”

How is Jamie Chadwick performing in Indy NXT this season?
It’s not all doom and gloom for Chadwick though, who still holds a slender advantage for fifth place in the championship standings.
She will also receive her big chance at the end of September, with a maiden IndyCar test for her current team Andretti.
If the Brit is able to impress at Barber Motorsports Park, then she could be within a shout of a seat in the future if ones becomes available.
Currently, Andretti have Colton Herta, Kyle Kirkwood and Marcus Ericsson all signed up and confirmed to be racing for them in 2025.
But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t the chance for Chadwick to feature in their IndyCar programme more prominently in the future if she manages to impress.
