Kyle Larson became part of an interesting argument this year, while being compared to reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen.
The Dutchman has been the undisputed king of the sport over the last three years, dominating race weekend after race weekend.
That appears to have changed recently, with McLaren and Lando Norris now challenging their imperious form.
It’s the same team that Larson may have a shot at conducting a Formula 1 test, having already competed in the world-renowned Indy 500 with them in 2024.

Larson is currently wrapped up in a battle for the NASCAR Cup Series title – a first in three years as the progresses through the playoffs.
There are seven races remaining, and he currently holds a healthy lead atop the standings ahead of Christopher Bell.
Speaking on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, he discussed what a Formula 1 opportunity may look like.

“I would love to do it, and it sounds like hopefully, I’ll get to it down the road,” he said. “I think it was an option this year, I just had so much going on.
“It’s like something that I need to plan probably a year in advance or more. I would like to, but, honestly, I would rather do it on one of those open test-style deals like after Abu Dhabi when other drivers are on the track, too.”
Larson prefers a comparison test with F1 drivers
With all the talk of who is better between Verstappen and Larson, comparison is the only way to decide who may be better.
While a direct comparison may not be possible, they can get close to achieving that by going side-by-side in the same car with some of Verstappen’s rivals.
Larson backs testing at the same time as either of McLaren’s current Formula 1 drivers to give a better picture of where his pace is at.

“I think that driver swaps are really cool, but you don’t have like a bar. You don’t have a gauge of where you stack up to others who do it,” he added.
“It would be fun to do that with Oscar [Piastri] or Lando [Norris] or whoever, but I would love to strap in with 19 other cars out there and see where you’re at on the speed charts.”
