Chip Ganassi confirmed their 2025 IndyCar line-up this week, detailing that Linus Lundqvist would no longer be driving for them.
Kyffin Simpson managed to retain his seat with the team, which now leaves Lundqvist searching for a drive elsewhere.
The Swede claimed two podiums and a pole position this season and won the Indy Lights championship in 2022.
He possesses undoubted talent, but now he must find a way to carve a drive for next year, competing against drivers with big budgets.
Linus Lundqvist in ‘positive talks’ for 2025 IndyCar seat
There are a few teams with openings for the 2025 season, including the likes of Dale Coyne Racing, Rahal Letterman Lanigan and Juncos Hollinger.
Discussing his future with RACER, the 25-year-old confirmed that there is a chance that he will return to the IndyCar grid yet.
“Positive talks are definitely happening, which is nice, but as usual within any business, all ends need to meet, and that includes financial ends,” Lundqvist said.

“So that’s usually what the talks have been about so far. I do still think that there are some opportunities for me to continue in IndyCar, which is good.
“We’re just gonna have to wait and see if we can make it happen. IMSA is something that every driver looks very fondly upon and it’s obviously something that I’m eyeing as well,” he continued.
“The main goal is still to stay in IndyCar but the IMSA side, the sports car stuff, is definitely something that I am interested in, especially if the IndyCar side doesn’t happen. I’m keeping a very much open door to sports cars, even outside of America.”
Who is Lundqvist competing with for a seat?
There are a few high-profile drivers without a seat for the 2025 season currently, who Lundqvist is competing against now.
Rinus VeeKay lost his seat at Ed Carpenter Racing to Alexander Rossi and is yet to find someone to hand him a contract.
Romain Grosjean hasn’t signed a new deal with his Juncos Hollinger team yet and is a driver who has shown that he can be a top-tier threat.

Then there are a few younger drivers like Jacob Abel and Jamie Chadwick searching for a promotion from Indy NXT, but that seems unlikely.
There may be a place for Lundqvist on the grid, but only time will tell if anyone wants to take a gamble on the driver who finished 16th in the championship this year.
