Louis Foster has just enjoyed one of the most dominant seasons in Indy NXT or Lights history, after claiming victory in 50% of the races on offer.
The combination of himself and Andretti struck fear into their opponents, to the tune of an over 100-point lead at the season’s end.
After shopping around for an opportunity to graduate, he finally found a home at Rahal Letterman Lanigan for 2025 and beyond.
He now needs to focus on developing even further to become a headache for some of the biggest stars in North American motorsport – but just how did he get there?
Louis Foster was ‘forced into single-seaters’
It’s a bit of a shock within the motorsport landscape to see a British driver forging a career for himself in North America, rather than in Europe.
It seems to have paid off for Foster in spectacular fashion though, and someone who probably had no chance of ever reaching Formula 1 is now racing at a near-equivalent level.
Speaking to James Hinchcliffe on IndyCar’s YouTube channel, he discussed how he progressed to single-seater racing in the first place.

“At 15 years old, there’s only one championship you can do in the UK aside from Ginetta Juniors, which is F4. We were kind of forced into single-seaters in a way.
“It was never really our intention. We did F4, finished third, then it was like ‘Why do it again’. You just kind of snowball from there.”
Who will Foster’s biggest enemies be in 2025?
Starting with the obvious, his RLL teammates are going to be two of his biggest enemies in 2025, but one of those is yet to be decided.
Veteran Graham Rahal will be in one of the cars, while the crazy silly season means that a whole host of other drivers could be joining them.
Rahal represents a level-headed and experienced figure for the 21-year-old to learn from as he finds his feet at the highest level.

Looking around the midfield, AJ Foyt’s young combination of David Malukas and Santino Ferrucci will be good benchmarks too.
McLaren have the youngest driver line-up on the grid, so if he can get close to them in what is expected to be inferior machinery, he will be doing very well too.
