Louis Foster is one of IndyCar’s most exciting breakthrough talents and has a terrific opportunity to show his value in 2025.
The Indy NXT champion has signed a multi-year deal with Rahal Letterman Lanigan after a dominant racing season in North America.
No one could get near him on the track, as he swept up seven of 14 available victories and won the championship by over 100 points.
But his road to the top hasn’t been so smooth sailing all the way, and early on in his career, he was blocked from progressing further…
Louis Foster was ‘god awful’ in go-karts
An ultra-competitive silly season this year has made it difficult for many in IndyCar to find a drive for 2025 – just ask Juncos Hollinger’s Romain Grosjean who is yet to sign a deal.
Foster’s performance is ultimately what helped to earn him that drive, and he will receive ample opportunity to prove himself again at the highest level.
Speaking to James Hinchcliffe on the IndyCar YouTube channel, he recalled how the start of his career was a bit turbulent.

“To start off, I was god awful in karts. [Started] at five. Took me even longer to get better and I still sucked. I only did cadets.
“My dad wouldn’t let me progress past cadet racing because he thought it was too dangerous. He’s now put me in IndyCar, so it’s a weird dynamic.”
Why Foster is among the most exciting prospects
If Foster can find a way to translate his dominant Indy NXT form onto the IndyCar track, then he could even be a dark horse candidate to win the title in the next few seasons.
His first year will be about adjusting to the physical and mental demands of the higher level, before developing his current skillset.
He’s at a team which has been trending upwards and was in and around the top 10 in 2024, so should they replicate that – then he’s probably had a good season.

They will field three cars, so he will have a new teammate before the season starts besides the experienced Graham Rahal.
He will be looking to learn plenty from the veteran, who will be able to draw on his memory to help Foster on his IndyCar journey.
