It has been two years since Mick Schumacher fell off the Formula 1 grid after a dismal two-year period with Haas.
Since then, he has been a reserve driver for Mercedes but sadly hasn’t found his way back into a cockpit during a race weekend.
That led him to sign for Alpine’s World Endurance Championship team for 2024, and he recently picked up his first podium in the gig at Fiji.
But his hopes of returning to Formula 1 are fading every day, as the sport moves on from his talents and turns its attention to the next crop of youngsters.
Mick Schumacher told to ‘go into the IndyCar series’
Christian Danner is a man who knows how harsh the Formula 1 landscape can be, having competed in the sport during the 1980s.
Speaking about Schumacher’s future hopes, he was fairly downbeat about his aspirations of returning to Formula 1.
“The motto was: now or never. If he’s not part of Formula 1 in 2025, the train has left the station,” Danner told Sport Bild.
“There are too many good young drivers coming up – and he will lose the advantage of knowing the cars in 2026 due to the new technical regulations.
“If Mick really loves motorsport, there are plenty of options. My advice from racing driver to racing driver: Mick, go into the IndyCar series!”
Where could Mick go in IndyCar?
Over the last decade, there have been multiple Formula 1 drivers making the switch across the pond to drive in IndyCar.
Max Chilton, Marcus Ericsson, and Romain Grosjean all come to mind, with all enjoying some success at stages of their career.
The series would offer an opportunity to keep Schumacher’s full-time single-seater career alive, while also giving him the chance to prove his talents again.

There are few seats available for 2025, but he has an alliance with PREMA, who have one of the five cockpits left, having won the Formula 2 championship with them in 2020.
The sheer marketability of his name would be massively valuable to IndyCar and the Italian outfit as a whole and would be the most likely avenue for the German.
