Just a few months on from being dropped as a Williams driver in Formula 1, Logan Sargeant has found his feet with an opportunity in IndyCar.
It’s nothing major, considering that it’s a test with a Meyer Shank Racing team who have no seats available for 2025, but it’s a chance to show what he can do.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget his credentials, and that he did show pace at times while racing in the pinnacle of motorsport.
He will be hoping to impress enough during the test that an opening becomes available for a full-time IndyCar role from the start of, or at least during the 2025 season.
Mike Shank believes it would be ‘foolish’ not to offer Logan Sargeant a chance
Many believed that Sargeant may be in the running for a seat with the all-new PREMA team, having raced with them in Europe before, and that still may be a possibility.
But there’s only one seat left after they announced Callum Ilott as one of their drivers for next season in preparation for their first foray into IndyCar.
Speaking to Autoweek, Mike Shank revealed why he decided to offer Sargeant an opportunity, despite having no open seats for 2025.

“As IndyCar owners, you’re kind of foolish not to test a Super License holder who’s 23 years old,” he said.
“They’re tough to get, and we had an opportunity to take a look at Logan even though my slots are full for next year.
“That doesn’t matter. I’ve got a really big sports car program, too. Could we use him maybe there sometime? It’s just really good to have looks at people when you have the opportunity.”
Where could Sargeant go for 2025?
There are a few drivers who have resigned to reserve or test driver roles after losing their seat in Formula 1 – which is clearly not on Sargeant’s agenda.
IndyCar is a good step for him – moving him closer to home (Florida), and perhaps offering the chance to be more settled.
Only two teams have openings with both seats for next season, with Rahal Letterman Lanigan and Juncos Hollinger Racing set to make their final decisions.

But it’s important not to lunge at the first opportunity offered – seeing as the wrong move could potentially do more damage than good to his career.
A year waiting for the right opportunity while competing in endurance racing could also be a wise step, with plenty of opportunities in Europe and North America in that regard.
