Chip Ganassi Racing have been the team to beat in recent years thanks to the success of Alex Palou.
The Spaniard claimed his third IndyCar title in four years in 2024 as he beat out Colton Herta, Scott McLaughlin and Will Power to the crown, grabbing two wins and six podiums in the process.
Chip Ganassi ran five cars last year in Palou, Scott Dixon, Marcus Armstrong and rookies Linus Lundqvist and Kyffin Simpson.
But due to the new charter system, the team will have to cut their line-up down from five drivers to three. With Palou and Dixon confirmed for 2025, speculation has been rife as to who will get the third and final seat between their drivers.
Kyffin Simpson might be confirmed at Chip Ganassi Racing ‘before the end of the month’
It has been widely reported that Simpson will be the one to get the seat after the 20-year-old impressed in his debut year, with Armstrong and Lundqvist set to depart CGR.
Armstrong has already confirmed his next destination as the Kiwi driver will be heading to Meyer Shank Racing in 2025. The 24-year-old secured his first podium in IndyCar at Detroit as well as five top-five finishes as he ended the year in 14th in the standings.

Lundqvist’s future is yet to be confirmed, having finished 16th in the standings, 19 points behind Armstrong. The Swedish driver managed two podiums across the season, but struggled to find consistent results as those third place finishes in Alabama and Gateway were his only finishes in the top five.
With Armstrong and Lundqvist leaving CGR, Simpson is the clear favourite to retain his seat for 2025, but no official confirmation has been made by the team. According to Marshall Pruett via RACER, that announcement could come before the end of the month.
When asked whether CGR had in fact decided on their line-up for next year, he said: “Yes. Alex Palou, Scott Dixon, and Kyffin Simpson.
“Simpson’s formal confirmation might be here before the end of the month, but there’s never been a question about whether he’s continuing.”
Kyffin Simpson will be looking to improve upon his 2024 season
Simpson came into IndyCar in 2024 off the back of finishing 10th in Indy NXT the year prior, grabbing two podiums across the season.
The Caymanian driver would ultimately fail to finish inside the top 10 all season, recording a best finish of 12th at the season opener at St Petersburg. Simpson ended the year 21st in the standings with 182 points, the lowest scoring CGR driver in 2024.

Despite a difficult first season, it is clear how much faith CGR have in Simpson given that they have elected to keep him on board over the likes of Armstrong and Lundqvist who could fight for podiums.
At only 20 years old, Simpson has bags of potential and now that he has been afforded the chance to stay with one of IndyCar’s top teams, he will be keen to impress and go better in 2025.
