Mick Schumacher embarked on his debut season in the World Endurance Championship in 2024, but his future beyond this year is currently unknown.
The German has made it no secret that he wants to return to F1. Schumacher endured a torrid two seasons with Haas before he was eventually dismissed by the team in 2023 after scoring just 12 points.
The 25-yerar-old had his sights set on a seat for 2025, but he has been repeatedly rejected across the paddock, with Mercedes, Alpine and Sauber all slamming the door on him and signing rookies for next year in Kimi Antonelli, Jack Doohan and Gabriel Bortoleto respectively.
With his chances of reaching F1 all but over for next year, the German has been exploring other options. Schumacher has been linked with a move to IndyCar, while Alpine seem keen to keep him on board in the WEC next season in their A424 Hypercar.
The German is the son of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher, who won five of those titles and 72 races with Ferrari. According to a report from AMuS, the team planned to bring the iconic name in motorsport back to Maranello.

After a difficult start to life in WEC with three non-points finishes before retiring from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Schumacher showed signs of progression as he scored points in the final four races of the year in the No. 36 car, which he shared with Matthieu Vaxiviere and Nicolas Lapierre.
In the penultimate round of the season, the trio scored the team’s first podium at Fuji with third. Alpine have been impressed with Schumacher and want to keep him for the 2025 season, but it has been reported that Schumacher left Alpine’s contract for three months while he tried to land a deal in F1.

In his search for a seat next year, the German has been looking at the rest of the field in WEC, with Ferrari ‘expressing interest’ in the 25-year-old.
According to the report, the Italian outfit were looking to place Schumacher in the ‘third factory-supported 499P’; the bright yellow No. 83 car which was piloted by Yifei Ye, Robert Shwartzman and Robert Kubica in 2024.
With Shwartzman heading to IndyCar to race for PREMA alongside Callum Ilott, the team had a seat available and were looking at Schumacher as a possible option.
The only issue is that the satellite AF Corse car is privately funded, which is ‘money that Schumacher would not have brought with him’. Ultimately, Ferrari opted to sign Phil Hanson to the No. 83 car, with the Brit joining the team next year from Hertz Team JOTA.
Who will be driving the yellow No. 83 Ferrari in 2025?
With Hanson confirmed for 2025, speculation has grown as to who will join him in the yellow AF Corse next season.
It is understood that Chinese driver Ye will remain with the team in 2025. It is also believed that former F1 driver Kubica will stay on for next year, with commentator Martin Haven saying that Kubica will not find a better seat than the one he has now.

Kubica and Ye, alongside Shwartzman, finished the 2024 season ninth in the drivers’ standings with 57 points.
The trio grabbed one of Ferrari’s two victories this season with a win at the Lone Star Le Mans in Austin. Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the No. 50 499P on their way to finishing second in the standings.
