Adrien Fourmaux improved significantly in the World Rally Championship this season compared to his previous efforts.
The Frenchman has been much more competitive at M-Sport, consistently scoring top-five finishes over the year in his Ford Puma Rally1.
Fourmaux has finished in the top five at many rallies this year, although some events have been more difficult.
He endured a tricky weekend last time out at the Central European Rally, slumping to 32nd place while also finishing 21st in Greece.
But the M-Sport driver did score his first podium finish in the World Rally Championship this season when Fourmaux finished third in Sweden, a great milestone to tick off.
Yet Fourmaux has now explained to the WRC YouTube channel that he has lofty career ambitions and may lose out on some aspects if he stays at M-Sport.

Fourmaux is getting towards the end of a very strong season in the World Rally Championship with multiple podiums.
The Frenchman has one round left to impress this year at Rally Japan on the tarmac roads where he failed to finish last year.
M-Sport Ford have had a relatively difficult year in the championship as they haven’t been able to challenge their rivals Toyota and Hyundai.
The pair are battling exclusively for the World Rally Championship for Manufacturers, while M-Sport Ford are in a distant third place.
Fourmaux explained that he wants to win the world championship and is open-minded about leaving M-Sport to achieve that, as different teams can offer a new perspective.
He said: “My goal is to be world champion, and I want to be world champion as soon as possible. If at some point I feel that I should go to another team to get something different, it’s maybe my ego, but sometimes you need to see different and you can maybe be faster or not just because you see different.
“I’ve always seen M-Sport. Maybe I miss a little bit not seeing another team. It’s always a bit difficult, but for sure, if they show that we have everything to get it, why leave?”

Fourmaux hopes to compete in Japan more effectively than last year and make it to the rally’s finish to end the year.
He is out of contention for the championship battle that Hyundai drivers Thierry Neuville and Ott Tanak are fighting for.
The Frenchman has been linked to Hyundai, but Fourmaux isn’t interested in joining Toyota for next season as his future isn’t confirmed.
A good result at the season’s final round in Japan would help his chances of securing a top seat and continuing his upward trajectory.
