Formula 3 acts as a major step for young talented drivers on the European scene as they look to reach the pinnacle of motorsport.
Leonardo Fornaroli secured the 2024 title in dramatic fashion with an ambitious overtake at the final corner on the last lap to beat rival and fellow Italian Gabriele Mini.
Formula 3 will see a revolutionary change for the 2025 season, as the series introduces a new-look bespoke 6-cylinder 3.4-litre machine that will run up to the 2027 season.
While there have been no official confirmation of any drivers for the 2025 season yet, there has been some significant team news as one squad is due to depart the sport.

F3 is home to 10 teams on the grid. In 2024, nine of those teams were outfits that were also established in the level above in Formula 2.

The 10th team was Jenzer Motorsport, who have competed in F3 since it was rebranded in 2019. However, the Swiss squad will be quitting the series following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Jenzer have struggled in F3, only grabbing two victories in their entire stint since 2019, coming from Yuki Tsunoda in the second race at Monza in 2019 and Taylor Barnard in the Feature Race at Spa in 2023.
This season, Matias Zagazeta scored the team’s only podium of the year in the Sprint Race at Silverstone as they finished bottom of the team’s championship with 29 points.
With Jenzer shutting up shop in F3, the series is searching for the Swiss outfit’s replacement. Speaking with GPBlog, the championship’s CEO Bruno Michel revealed that an F2 team currently not in F3 is likely to fill the spot as 2025 season is set to have 10 teams and 30 drivers.
“Not more than that,” he said. “We opened a selection process and there were quite a lot of teams that wanted to join for only one position.
“But out of all the applications we had, of course we had applications from F2 teams that were not in F3, and there are two of them.
“And yes, one of these two teams would be quite likely to enter into competition for the next cycle, but the process is not finished yet.”

DAMS and Invicta Racing are the only Formula 2 teams not in Formula 3
With nine of the 11 F2 teams already in F3, that leaves DAMS and Invicta Racing as the ‘likely’ squads to fill Jenzer’s vacant spot.
DAMS has housed three GP2 champions in Romain Grosjean, Davide Valsecchi and Jolyon Palmer and finished in the top three of the teams’ championship in the first three years of F2, winning in 2019. However, the French outfit have since fallen on hard times, finishing in the top five only once in the last five seasons.
Invicta Racing are relatively new, with the name first being seen in 2023 as Invicta Virtuosi Racing, before they took over from Virtuosi fully in 2024. This season, the team has seen immediate success as Gabriel Bortoleto leads the drivers’ championship and he and Kush Maini have put Invicta top of the teams’ championship with three rounds to go.
