Nyck de Vries has confirmed that the Mahindra Formula E driver will compete in the next two rounds of the Japanese Super Formula Championship at Motegi and Fuji.
The former Formula 1 driver and 2020/21 Formula E champion will drive the No. 19 Toyota-powered Team Impul car while making his debut in the Japanese single-seater series.
The 29-year-old will drive at Motegi on 23-25 August, before racing in the Fuji double-header on 11-13 October, at the former venue of the F1 Japanese Grand Prix.
De Vries is undertaking a dual Formula E and World Endurance Championship campaign this year. He also took the Dutchman’s maiden WEC victory in the No. 7 Toyota at Imola ahead of the No. 6 Porsche.
De Vries will become Super Formula’s third international driver of the season
The Super Formula grid is dominated by blistering fast Japanese drivers and throughout the 2024 season has had very few competitors from other nations competing.
The reigning FIA Formula 2 champion, Theo Pourchaire, was originally scheduled to race in the full campaign with Team Impul before switching to Arrow McLaren in IndyCar after the opening round at Suzuka.

The Frenchman was replaced by British driver Ben Barnicoat solely for the second round of the season at Sugo, before Hibiki Taira drove the No. 19 car for rounds three and four.
A former Formula 1 driver in De Vries now competing in two rounds of the championship is a boost for Super Formula as a whole.
The Dutchman struggled during his brief stint in F1 with AlphaTauri, being consistently beaten by his teammate Yuki Tsunoda before losing the seat halfway through the year to Daniel Ricciardo.
De Vries has had a mixed 2024 season so far
The Dutchman has been competitive in the World Endurance Championship while competing for Toyota in the Hypercar class this season.
De Vries has been driving with a fellow former Formula 1 driver, Kamui Kobayashi, during the six-hour races and the pair were joined by Jose Maria Lopez at Le Mans.
The No. 7 Toyota has been consistently challenging at the front of the field, taking the win during the second round of the season at Imola.
They were also the lead Toyota at Le Mans, finishing second behind Ferrari before finishing just off the podium in fourth place in Brazil.
His Formula E campaign was lacklustre; he missed the Berlin ePrix due to a clash with the WEC event at Spa-Francorchamps but scored points on just two occasions all season.
