Pascal Wehrlein enjoyed an incredibly successful run to the Formula E title in the 2023-24 season which was pushed by a significant improvement in qualifying.
The German driver won the title by six points over his nearest rival, Mitch Evans, in a consistent season for the Porsche driver in Formula E.
Wehrlein won three races and the championship, despite standing on the podium on just four occasions over the year.
Qualifying was a major improvement for Wehrlein compared to the previous season, and he had the best average starting position of 5.38 in Season 10.
Pascal Wehrlein believes Porsche ‘deserved’ to win the title in the 2023-24 season
Porsche, especially Wehrlein, were held back by the German manufacturers’ lack of raw speed in qualifying during 2022-23, as they consistently failed to challenge in the duels.
The German driver hit the ground running to kick off his title-winning campaign, however, by taking pole position and the race win at the Mexico City ePrix.
This dominant weekend showed that Porsche had taken a step forward and left their qualifying issues behind.

Wehrlein took two more pole positions over the season, starting at the very front of the field in Sao Paulo and at the Monaco ePrix.
He told RacingNews365 that Porsche were the deserving winner of the championship after a challenging year in the 2022-23 season and improving on their qualifying.
“That [qualifying well] made the races a lot easier,” he said. “And that’s, for me, why this year also feels like the first time we would have deserved also to win the championship. I think last year, we were not completely ready for it.”

Porsche and Wehrlein took a sizeable step forward in qualifying for the 2023-24 season which laid the foundations for a title-winning season.
They transformed their qualifying performance and became leading contenders over a single lap, leaving Wehrlein with less overtaking to do during the races.
Wehrlein explained that during testing, Porsche figured out a solution to their troubles in qualifying ahead of Season 10.
He said: “I think that’s the area we really focused on in the winter time and in the off-season, and during testing and so on. We fixed that, and now on average we were the best qualifiers [in S10].”
Wehrlein will hope for more success when the new Formula E season kicks off in Brazil in December when he lines up alongside Antonio Felix da Costa at Porsche.
