While Zane Maloney is focused on attaining the best possible result in the Formula 2 championship, he has just secured his future beyond 2024.
Currently sitting third in the drivers’ standings having claimed two wins and five podiums, the Barbadian driver is 34.5 points away from the top of the pecking order.
Should he continue to build momentum, there’s a good chance that the 20-year-old will be able to contend for the crown in Abu Dhabi.
After that, his attention will turn to the electric Formula E series, where he has just signed a contract with ABT Lola.
Zane Maloney ‘impressed’ before signing for ABT Lola
Maloney tested Lola’s Gen3 Evo development car at Varano in Italy earlier this month, while being assessed for a deal.
Lucas di Grassi was also that day, and will be his teammate during the 2025 season despite hitting the age of 40 in August.
The Brazilian endured his worst-ever season in 2023/24, but his valuable experience and contributions seem to be enough to have earned him a seat.

Maloney on the other hand, ‘impressed’ before his test according to The Race, with an array of great Formula 2 performances and a good attitude.
He also tested for IndyCar outfit Rahal Letterman Lanigan but appears to have opted against a move to North America.
What stands between Maloney and a special Formula 2 title?
The two races left in the Formula 2 season are Qatar and Abu Dhabi, making a 34.5 point difficult to overcome.
It means that Maloney probably has to secure at least two feature race podiums (and probably a win) to stand a chance.
A retirement would see him all-but eliminated from the running, but that’s not too much of a worry now that he is aware that he has to send it.
In fact, he has completely missed out on points just three times this season between 12 rounds, which is shows good consistency.
The biggest obstacle in his way is his rivals – Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar have both been very impressive this year, and it would take something strange for them to drop off out of nowhere.
