AJ Foyt Racing will be without one of their key personnel heading into the 2025 season, with the team headed for a big change.
Their new driver line-up will consist of Santino Ferrucci and David Malukas – one of the most exciting pairings on the grid.
They showed signs of rapid improvement towards the end of 2024, with Ferrucci coming ever so close to a breakthrough podium.
It’s going to be one of their targets next year, but they may even be able to push for the odd victory with a car that has proven itself on road courses and ovals.
AJ Foyt will ‘miss’ technical director Michael Cannon
The team confirmed this week that they would be parting ways with technical director Michael Cannon, who had been with them for two seasons.
He leaves them after helping to lead them to a top 10 finish in the drivers’ championship, their first in 22 years.
Speaking to RACER, they confirmed that they are in no rush to fill the void left by Cannon – a sign of confidence in the team’s work.

“We’re certainly going to miss Mike and it was really awesome working with him,” AJ Foyt said. “I tried to get him for many years, so I’m really sorry that it’s not going to continue.
“As far as the T.D., we’re not in a huge hurry to fill that role. I think with everything that’s working with Penske that we’re fine, and we’ve got enough engineers in the building to do everything we’re hoping to do.”
What next for AJ Foyt Racing?
Hopefully this event won’t stall any of the momentum that the team had built up with a terrific performance in 2024.
They were starting to compete at the front of the grid, and the future is bright with their young driver pairing.
Exceptionally, while they are young, they also have plenty of experience, and will be able to help move the team in a positive direction.

Filling Cannon’s boots could prove to be a tricky task, although they could turn to Formula 1 to find some talent.
Whichever direction they go in, they will need to remain focused on their two drivers and giving them the best resources to go out and do the team proud.
