Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing have announced the IndyCar team have signed Louis Foster to a multi-year contract, so here is everything to know about the British driver.
The 2025 IndyCar Series campaign will see Foster get his debut in the premier single-seater series in North America after signing for RLL in October 2024. He agreed to a multi-year deal to cap a phenomenal term for the Englishman after winning the Indy NXT title with Andretti.
Foster started to carve out a career in North America in 2022 after giving up on the route up to Formula 1. After initially cutting his teeth racing in Europe, Foster switched to the IndyCar ladder and enjoyed instant success. His rise continued to be rapid to reach IndyCar for 2025.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan signed Foster to a multi-year contract as they continued to set the team’s 2025 IndyCar line-up after the driver dominated Indy NXT in 2024. The Briton was in another league to his rivals with eight wins in 14 rounds and winning the title by 122 points.
Foster started his Indy NXT title-clinching season steadily after only backing up a P3 result at St Petersburg in P5 at Barber Motorsports Park and P7 in the first race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. But he did not finish outside of the top two in any of the remaining races.
A run of eight wins in 11 rounds saw Foster surpass and streak clear of American rival Jacob Abel to win the 2024 Indy NXT crown. But there was no room at the Andretti IndyCar inn, so Foster had to seek a drive elsewhere and ultimately sealed his IndyCar breakthrough at RLL.
Such was Foster’s dominance in Indy NXT in 2024 that he secured the title with a round left spare, as well. It was the perfect example of his absolute determination to win, with Foster once claiming and affirming, ‘I love winning but I hate losing more’, whilst vying in Indy NXT.
It was also during his Indy NXT title-winning season that Foster scored his first pole position at an oval circuit for the race at Gateway. It was one of seven pole positions he secured that year, and paved a route for Foster to dominate the round by leading more laps than anyone.
Louis Foster has loved the American racing scene after starting his career in sports cars
Foster is accustomed to tasting success after a fruitful junior career. But his only title wins so far have come since joining the North American racing scene. Foster lifted the first single-seater title of his career in 2022 when he won the Indy Pro 2,000 Championship as a rookie.
Before that, Foster’s rise had been littered with near misses after finishing third for the 2019 British F4 crown in the Briton’s first year in single-seaters. He also finished third for the 2020 BRDC British Formula 3 crown plus second for the Euroformula Open Championship in 2021.
Foster’s racing career also started driving in sports cars, having contested the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2017 and in 2018 when he finished second in the standings. Unlike most of the drivers in most major series, Foster only started go-karting at nine and competed locally.

Who is the new Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing IndyCar driver Louis Foster?
Louis Foster is a British racing talent currently driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the IndyCar Series. He joined RLL in October 2024 ahead of the 2025 season with a multi-year contract. It was the Briton’s IndyCar breakthrough having not been in the series before.

Andretti said after Foster won the 2024 Indy NXT title: “Louis has just been unstoppable this season and it’s been a lot of fun to watch him dominate weekend after weekend.”
Don Lambert, the Andretti Indy NXT team manager at the time Foster secured his title, was also full of praise. Lambert said: “It’s so rewarding to see all of that hard work pay off with Louis’ championship title.
“Our program as a whole was really strong this year. But Louis just dominated, and those multiple wins were exactly what we needed to finish the championship off before we even got to the season finale.”
Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, also backed Foster to enjoy a big career in IndyCar after securing his signature for at least “several” seasons in October 2024.
Rahal said: “He dominated Indy NXT in 2024 and we feel he has a big future ahead of him, and are happy to support the ladder system IndyCar has created.
“We look at this as a long-term relationship that will go beyond the existing terms and are very excited to get started on preparations for the 2025 season and his series debut.”
