Logan Sargeant’s racing career came crashing down to earth this summer when Williams announced they would be replacing him mid-season in Formula 1.
That’s a pretty rare occurrence and speaks volumes about his performance (or lack of) which led to him being subbed out in favour of Franco Colapinto.
He’s had a few months off but has yet to decide what his next full-time move will be, although his intentions are pretty clear.
After testing an IndyCar with Meyer Shank Racing, a return to single-seaters in his home country seems on the cards, but first, he has to convince somebody to give him an opportunity.
Logan Sargeant tested IndyCar in hope of 2025 seat
With absolutely no chance of a return to Formula 1, Sargeant’s attention must turn to competing somewhere he can enjoy success for the rest of his career.
At the age of 24, he has plenty of racing ahead of him, but first, he needs to find a home that can help him develop and grow.
Speaking on his podcast, Marshall Pruett believes that there are two reasons why he was given an IndyCar test with Meyer Shank Racing.

“Why is Logan testing with Meyer Shank Racing when they have no vacancies? A couple of things. It’s the off-season, so there’s not a crazy amount of news going on.
“What’s a really good way for a media-savvy team like Meyer Shank Racing to get a big off-season hit? Very popular driver by the name of Logan Sargeant doing his first-ever IndyCar test in their car.
“Also have the fact that Logan, obviously no longer in Formula 1, looking for options for himself. There are some vacancies in IndyCar. Could a really strong test be something that piques the interest of a Juncos Hollinger Racing or a Dale Coyne Racing? It’s entirely possible.”
Where could Sargeant land in the future?
For now, the American seems set on remaining in single-seater racing, but he may have to bide his time and remain patient for an opportunity.
Both Juncos Hollinger and Dale Coyne appear set on hiring pay drivers to help inflate their budgets for the 2025 season.
Maybe there’s a spot at Rahal Letterman Lanigan available, but the Fittipaldi brothers, Rinus VeeKay and Romain Grosjean are all ahead of him in the pecking order for that opportunity.
It means that 2026, or a mid-season opportunity are probably his best bets if he wants to find a forever home in IndyCar.
He has the credentials to be in a top team, but he may need to prove himself further down the grid before making that leap up the field again – a lot of work lies ahead for him.
