Louis Foster had been crying out for an IndyCar outfit to pounce on his services after a record-breaking year in Indy NXT.
The Brit dominated the series, taking eight victories in 14 races and taking the championship crown with ease.
For months it looked like there may not be an opening for him on the IndyCar grid for 2025, despite his performances warranting a graduation.
But with a handful of seats left, he has finally picked up an opportunity at the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team.
Louis Foster’s Indy NXT season was ‘truly special’
Previous Indy NXT champion Christian Rasmussen found a way to remain on the IndyCar grid with Ed Carpenter Racing, despite a lack of any major results.
His campaign in the feeder series wasn’t as impressive as Foster’s either, which made it all the more puzzling that the Brit was on the free driver market for so long.
With the likes of Rinus VeeKay and Romain Grosjean still out there, the team could go many ways in its decision of who to partner Foster with.

But their announcement leaves Juncos Hollinger Racing as the only team on the grid with two open seats for the 2025 season now.
Speaking on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account, journalist Will Buxton reserved high praise for the youngster when he said: “RLL have got a very good driver on their books. Indy NXT season was something truly special. Excited to see him in the big leagues. Congratulations.”
Foster can ramp up preparations for maiden season
Foster will face all sorts of challenges in his maiden IndyCar season that he won’t have had to deal with before.
Namely, the Indy 500 is going to be a steep task, manning the faster car for a longer period of time can be more physically demanding.
Just ask Jamie Chadwick, who admitted the lack of power steering has left her with more work to do on her physique off the track.

There are also going to be a few new layouts to learn, new buttons within the car, and new braking points on the track – but that’s something every racing driver faces when moving up in the world.
If anyone has the ability to make this move a successful one, it’s Foster, who could be the man to lead Rahal Letterman Lanigan to glory if they can give him a car capable of contending for good points.
