Felipe Drugovich is being linked with a move away from Formula 1 after being left on the sidelines at Aston Martin.
The Brazilian has acted as the Silverstone-based team’s reserve driver since 2022; the same year he won the Formula 2 Championship with MP Motorsport.
Drugovich won the F2 title in dominant fashion, winning five wins, claiming 11 podiums and he only finished outside the points on three occasions as he beat Theo Pourchaire by 101 points.
Since then, the 24-year-old’s only racing appearances have been in the European Le Mans Series this season as he has been snubbed of an F1 seat for the last couple years.
With Aston Martin confirmed to be retaining Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll for 2025, Drugovich is now faced with moving away from the sport entirely and finding a full-time drive.
Felipe Drugovich gives cryptic response when asked about competing in WEC and Formula E
Recently, the Brazilian was handed a test with IndyCar giants Chip Ganassi Racing at Barber Motorsport Park, with performance director Chris Simmons saying Drugovich did a ‘real good job’ in his outing with the team.
In the wake of this test, Drugovich has been told to ask Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll about his future as he looks at other categories of racing or 2025.

Aston Martin will be joining the Hypercar class of WEC next season, and given his appearances in endurance racing this year, the Brazilian has been linked with the team over a potential seat.
Drugovich also previously tested in Formula E with Maserati in the 2023/24 season. In an interview with Motorsport Brasil, the 24-year-old was asked about the prospect of moving to either WEC with Aston Martin or to the all-electric series.
And Drugovich did not give much away as he could only laugh when question was put to him, before saying: “I think it depends a lot about the opportunity you have. I think any championship I would be happy to do, as long as I can fight for a championship.
“I think it has to be a team that can do it for me, that this opportunity also has a history. [But] also a relative history, right, because MP also didn’t have a history of winning, we managed it, but we really knew that we could have this opportunity.
“So I think regardless of what I do, I’m going to look for something that I get the opportunity to fight for the top positions, that’s something I’ve been doing and I think it would be the main objective for next year.”
Where will Felipe Drugovich go in 2025?
It is clear that Drugovich does not want to be stuck as a Formula 1 reserve driver for much longer and did not seem to rule out the idea of branching out into WEC or FE.
Aston Martin are said to be looking outside their current crop of drivers for their WEC debut in 2025, and Drugovich will no doubt be an option for the team given his experience in ELMS this year.

FE seems a bit more unrealistic at this point for the Brazilian. Only ERT have yet to confirm their drivers for the 2024/25 campaign, and the Chinese outfit will not present Drugovich with a title-contending car on paper given their struggles in recent years.
IndyCar is another good option for the 24-year-old, but it seems unlikely that he will get a full-time seat with CGR, given that Kyffin Simpson is expected to retain his seat alongside Alex Palou and Scott Dixon. There are a few seats available in IndyCar for the 2025 season, so it will be interesting to see where Drugovich eventually ends up.
