Sacha Fenestraz left Formula E at the end of last season after a difficult two-year stint with Japanese manufacturer Nissan.
He floundered in the all-electric series and failed to score a podium finish, while his teammate Oliver Rowland ended last season with fourth place in the standings and two victories.
Fenestraz is looking to return to Japan for next season after enjoying a successful stint in the nation earlier in his career.
The Argentinian won the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in 2019 and contended for the Super Formula title three years later.
He explained to the Corazon de F1 YouTube channel that he would like to race in Super Formula, and that competing with Toyota could open doors for more opportunities.
Racing with Toyota in Super Formula could open doors to WEC for Sacha Fenestraz
Fenestraz competed with Toyota engines during his first stint in the Super Formula championship while racing for Kondo Racing.
They collaborated over three seasons and challenged for the championship in 2022, although they ended up in second place.
There could be opportunities for the 25-year-old to return to the Japanese manufacturer next season as Fenestraz leaves Europe and the world stage behind again.

The World Endurance Championship is attracting many manufacturers like Toyota, who have been a consistent frontrunner and won the Hypercar championship last year.
Fenestraz explained that doors could open to WEC if he linked up with Toyota again in Super Formula and competed at the front.
He said: “For many reasons, I ended up in Japan even though there is nothing 100% confirmed; I ended up choosing that because I knew in the long term, it would suit me better.
“With Toyota, I did very well and am very good. I always liked it a lot; it’s like a family. With them, you know they are going to take care of you and treat you well when you do your job.
“For that reason, it leaned towards giving Japan a chance instead of other championships. Toyota also has nice other championships in which they participate, like WEC. I won’t hide it; going to Japan with Toyota opens the door for a possibility in WEC in the short term future.”
WEC is becoming a much more established championship
The World Endurance Championship is attracting a lot of manufacturers, such as Ferrari and Porsche who are both competitive.
It was a far cry from the end of the LMP1 era when that category had just five cars, and Toyota enjoyed a significant advantage.
WEC could be a good option for Fenestraz, who had Hypercar options for 2025 but decided to pursue a return to Japan and a possible chance to work with Toyota.
But, for now, the Argentinian needs to focus on securing a seat with a competitive team in Japan and delivering results before focusing on racing in WEC.
